Spiritual gifts
The gift of Mercy
You feel what others feel and you move toward the hurting instead of away. Compassion is not a mood for you; it is a calling.
Romans 12:8
“The one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.”Romans 12:8
In the church
You sit with the grieving, visit the sick, remember the forgotten member. You make the church a safe place to be broken.
Outside the church
You are drawn to the shelter, the hospital room, the struggling student, the coworker nobody talks to anymore.
In childhood
You cried at other people's pain. You brought home strays — animals and people.
In adulthood
You learn boundaries so compassion does not become drowning. Cheerful mercy, not exhausted mercy, is the goal.
With others who share it
People with mercy carry heavy stories. Debrief with others who share this gift so grief does not settle in you alone.
