The genesis of the company stems from a deeply personal and transformative experience. In 2017, Dr. Nalls faced the unimaginable fear of nearly losing her son, Christopher, in a devastating attack that left him fighting for survival. Despite bleak medical prognoses, she turned to prayer, fasting and unwavering faith in God's promises. Through divine intervention and a miraculous recovery, Christopher defied all odds — solidifying her belief in the power of God's word.

The name “Just Be” encapsulates that journey — a reminder to be still, be faithful and be confident in God's plan. Rooted in scripture and divine assurance, Just Be signifies a dedication to God's faithfulness and a commitment to spreading His word. It is a ministry founded on the principles of trust, obedience and praise to the Most High.

Dr. Tonya J. Nalls is a passionate author, speaker and advocate for personal transformation through faith, bringing over 25 years of experience in special education administration and teaching across both general and special education environments.

Before retiring in July 2022, she served as Director of Special Education for the Special School District of St. Louis County, coordinating and overseeing special education programs in partnership with districts across the county. In that role she delivered district-wide professional development and training, ensured compliance with state and federal regulations governing students with disabilities, and collaborated with district leaders to remove barriers to general education.

She also brings significant classroom experience, having taught students in grades 3–12 across diverse ability levels, and worked with community agencies to build programs preparing students to become productive members of society.

As Founder of Just Be Books & More, LLC, Dr. Nalls continues to coordinate services and supports that improve outcomes for students, families, staff and community — drawing from her own journey of overcoming poverty, childhood trauma and personal loss.

Beyond her work in education and publishing, Dr. Nalls serves as a Development Strategist. She doesn't simply coach — she discovers, assesses, and connects the dots: identifying strengths, clarifying identity, finding the story, naming the audience, developing the message, building the platform, and creating the strategy that helps a person move from who they have been to who they are positioned to become. Scripture describes gifts like helping others, teaching and showing mercy in 1 Corinthians 12:4–7 and Romans 12:6–8. Those gifts aren't just abilities — they are given to make the world better. Drawing on decades in education, Dr. Nalls built a curriculum that addresses both educational needs and spiritual growth.
